Mesut Ozil could reportedly be forced into staying at Arsenal after failing to find any other clubs willing to meet his wage demands (via The Sun).
Mesut Ozil has been an interesting player at Arsenal. After arriving from Real Madrid for a then club-record £42.5 million in 2013, the German has been a key player in the team.
The playmaker has, however, be on the receiving end of more than his fair share of criticism during his time in England over question marks about his performances and body language which led to question marks about his future.
The midfielder’s contract at Arsenal is set to expire at the end of the season after failing to agree on a new deal in North London.
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United were seen as a possible destination as well as the major clubs in German and Spain.
However, reports indicate that neither club was willing to meet Ozil’s hefty wage demands despite the free transfer. Now, it is claimed that the German could look to stay at Arsenal and accept their previous contract offer.
It’s an incredible situation and just goes to show the hectic nature at Arsenal right now. Obviously, it’s good news that the club could keep hold of one of the key players in the team but it’s slightly damning that none of the other top sides in Europe were interested in him if these reports are to be believed.
