Everton are ready to turn their attentions to Danny Welbeck after the Premier League side missed out on the chance of signing Olivier Giroud (via The Mirror).
When Olivier Giroud climbed above everyone to power in his match-winning header last Friday night, there was no secret about the Frenchman’s importance to the Arsenal squad.
Giroud has been the subject of transfer interest from rival Premier League clubs all summer but claimed that he would be staying at the club after the match.
Everton have been one of those clubs but it seems that after missing out on Giroud, the Toffees are turning their attentions to another Arsenal striker: Danny Welbeck.
Welbeck has been at the Emirates since 2014 and after an injury-ravaged campaign last year is back on the pitch and playing well.
The Englishman got his first goal of the season on Friday as well and it would seem unlikely that Arsene Wenger would want to part with the forward now.
This transfer is a little unlikely. If any Arsenal attacker were to leave the club before 1 September, surely Theo Walcott would be higher up the list of candidates? Walcott hasn’t really featured for the club in this new system and struggles to find space when he is on the pitch. Welbeck suits the 3-4-2-1 far better and is more versatile than his England teammate. Let’s hope the former Manchester United man continues to impress.
